From time to time, Jack will appear with a commentary about what is going on in the cycling community.

With all the snow we had this year, Ragged Mountain still has that white stuff in some
spots. And until two weeks ago, there was a huge mound of snow where the finish line
was going to be. A little nerve wracking for Dan McDonald to say the least. Well,
luckily for us it all melted in time, and left us with our own little mud bog, just
what we needed. We had nice weather all weekend and a great turnout of over 160 riders.
Adam Craig cut his racing teeth "back in the day" while attending Maine Mountain
Bike Association races. His first breakthrough result was at the 1998 National
Mountain Bike Championships on his home NCS course of Mount Snow. The Silver medal
from that day left most everybody on the mountain wondering who was this new kid
that could put the boots to the West coasters.
The best time to ride in New England especially New Hampshire is in autumn before the
leaves fall, and after the humid weather and insects have retired. However there is a
wrinkle of time in the spring. Just after the mud dries up, but before the blood
sucking black flies, mosquitoes, deer, and horseflies hatch to live their short pestering lives.
To maintain top performance, disk brakes should periodically be bled. I have been
installing and repairing Hayes brakes since they evolved on the mountain bike scene
back in late 1997. Through trial and thankfully minimal error, I have developed
a system that is easy and fast to achieve proper brake performance.
Lynn Woods has many types of trails to suit beginners to experts. But having some
of most technical single track in eastern Massachusetts makes this a hot spot for
great riding. Bowridge (north of Walden Pond) is where to look for the best
singletrack. There are many natural of all sizes drops to test your skills on.
