Jared Graves signs with Yeti Cycles
Sat Jan 24, 2004
Team Yeti announced this week that it has signed a new crop of young, fast racers for the 2004 race season. "We are very excited to keep with Yeti tradition by signing young riders with great potential," said Chris Conroy, Yeti Cycles' president.
Leading the team will be mountain cross specialist Jill Kintner ('03 NORBA National Champion, '03 UCI World Cup - 3rd Overall) and Aussie downhill and mountain cross speedster Jared Graves. Rounding out the team will be Trent Lowe (2001 Jr. World Champion - XC) and Ross Milan (2003 Mountain States Cup Champion in DH and mountain cross). "All of our riders this year are really motivated to ride for Team Yeti and that always makes for a great racing season," Conroy said.
Racing has long been the cornerstone of Yeti's product development and Conroy feels this has given Yeti a competitive advantage in the market. "Some of our best products have come directly from our racing efforts and we expect this year to yield some great results," said Conroy, who mentioned they are working on new downhill and mountain cross specific products with the race team.
While the team will focus on traditional race venues - NORBA National Championships, select UCI World Cup events, and some regional races - they will also seek out new opportunities where riders can display their skill and style in a less structured environment. These events include freeride competitions and other events.
Yeti Cycles are also the choice of the Canadian-based Flowriders as well as the Yeti/RPM development squad.
Fielding a winning team requires product and support from other industry leaders.
Team Yeti also announced today that it has added several new sponsors including Fox Racing Shox, Maxxis Tires, Topeak, and X-pedo pedals.
Fox Racing Shox will be the exclusive supplier for front and rear suspension and will work closely with Yeti racers on new suspension products, including new DH and a mountain cross specific forks. "Our partnership with Fox Racing gives us access to the latest in suspension technology," Conroy said. "We are very excited to have Fox Racing Shox on board and look forward to many successes together this year."
Team Yeti will be running the best tires in the industry - Maxxis. Yeti noted that Maxxis has shown a great commitment to racing and product development and has already supplied Team Yeti riders product for testing and development.
Topeak manufactures and distributes the finest tools, pumps and repair stands on the market. Both professional and enthusiast mechanics, Topeak is fast becoming the benchmark for quality and innovation.
X-pedo, a new high-end subsidiary of Wellgo, recently introduced cutting-edge clipless pedals and will supply Team Yeti this season with the latest products and work with the Team in new product development.
Truvativ, a partner since last year, has made and increased commitment to the team. Look for Truvativ handlebars, stems, cranks, bottom brackets, and chainguides on the Yeti team rigs this year.
