BustedSpoke's Buy Vietnam Night A Success!
A Fundraiser to Benifit NEMBA's Land Trust Fund

The Buy Vietnam event presented by BustedSpoke.com at Rye Airfield Saturday night, March 8, 2003, will be an event that is talked about for a long time to come. Put on as a benefit for the NEMBA Land Preservation Fund, the event drew a larger than anticipated crowd to the indoor skate park venue. The night was a complete success and although official figures are not in, raised about $3,000 to help purchase a portion of private land at one of New England's favorite mountain bike destinations.

Riders and spectators were treated to a number of visual goodies. Don Hampton chose this venue for the World premier of his DH production's mountain bike video "Chain Reaction 4" featuring East coast riders at East coast locations. The movie was shown over and over throughout the night allowing riders a chance to view it as well as thinning out the riding floor. It was on the riding floor that riders of all ages and abilities were sharing lines with pros Aaron Chase, Kyle Ebbett, Jeff Lenosky and Lars Tribus - all stars of Chain Reaction 4.

The evening was broken up with a raffle featuring quality products from the event's sponsors. The raffle also marked the beginning of the professional's demo. In a 20 minute jam session, all the pros which also included Seth Lolli, George Ryan and more, stepped up and delivered stellar performances highlighted by Lars and Aaron sticking back-to-back back flips. (say that 3 times fast!)

The night would not be complete without a little romance! One participant took advantage of the final raffle to propose to his girlfriend in front of the whole crowd! The woman was lured to the stage by winning a pre-arranged raffle. The answer was yes and the mountain bike-enthusiast couple was given the collective approval from all in attendance.

The final raffle of the night featured a 2003 Sinister Ridge frame donated by Sinister Bikes (we can't say thank them enough!). The lucky young winner, just shy of his 16th birthday, will undoubtedly put it to good use as he is already an accomplished BMX rider.

"Buy Vietnam" was a complete success because of all those who attended and volunteered for this event. There is still a ways to go to attain the goal of purchasing this 47 acre parcel of land and this will not be the last event. We can all help out by further donating to the NEMBA Land Preservation Fund. Please visit www.nemba.org for all the details.
